Student working through IGCSE maths problems with a tutor

Finding a reliable IGCSE maths tutor is one of the most common challenges Cambridge families face. Algebra, coordinate geometry, and quadratic equations cause genuine difficulty for many students — and a single weekly session with a private tutor is rarely enough to build real understanding.

Epivo is an AI-powered IGCSE maths tutor that works through conversation. Instead of presenting worked examples and walking away, it asks your child to explain their reasoning, identifies exactly where the gap is, and explains the concept until it makes sense. It is available every day, at any hour, for a flat monthly fee — far more accessible than a £40–80 hourly private tutor.

All content is aligned to the Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics syllabus (0580). Whether your child is just starting the course or revising for exams, Epivo meets them where they are.

What makes Epivo different as an IGCSE maths tutor

Covers the full IGCSE Maths syllabus

Number, algebra, geometry, mensuration, trigonometry, vectors, probability, and statistics — all mapped to Cambridge 0580 Core and Extended tiers.

Teaches through dialogue, not just explanation

Epivo asks your child to work through problems step by step and points out exactly where reasoning goes wrong — the same technique the best human tutors use.

No fixed session times

Maths revision at 9pm before a test? A quick question on a Saturday morning? Epivo is available every day, any time — no booking required.

Affordable for regular support

Private IGCSE maths tutors charge £40–80 per hour. Epivo provides unlimited maths tutoring for a flat monthly subscription.

What does IGCSE maths cover?

The Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics syllabus (0580) is divided into six content areas. Students take either the Core tier or the Extended tier, depending on their target grade and school recommendation. The Extended tier covers more content and allows students to achieve grades A* to E, while the Core tier leads to grades C to G.

Number

Integers, fractions, decimals, percentages, powers, and roots. Standard form, ratio, and proportion. This forms the foundation for all other areas.

Algebra and graphs

Simplifying expressions, solving linear and quadratic equations, simultaneous equations, inequalities, sequences, and functions. Graph sketching and transformations are also assessed.

Coordinate geometry

Gradients, midpoints, equations of straight lines, and distance between points. Extended tier students also cover circle theorems.

Geometry and trigonometry

Angles, polygons, circles, constructions, bearings, and Pythagoras. Trigonometry including sine and cosine rules for Extended candidates.

Mensuration

Area and perimeter of 2D shapes, volume and surface area of 3D solids. Sectors, arcs, and compound shapes.

Statistics and probability

Data representation (bar charts, histograms, scatter graphs), averages, cumulative frequency, and box plots. Probability including tree diagrams and combined events.

Common IGCSE maths challenges — and how Epivo helps

Most IGCSE maths students struggle with the same areas: algebraic manipulation, quadratic equations, probability tree diagrams, and trigonometry. These topics require a particular kind of step-by-step thinking that is hard to teach through written textbooks alone.

Epivo is particularly effective for these topics because it can walk your child through each step interactively. When a student makes an error in a factorisation problem, Epivo does not simply show the correct answer — it asks a question that guides the student back to where the reasoning went wrong, building genuine understanding rather than temporary familiarity.

For homeschooled students preparing for Cambridge IGCSE Maths as private candidates, Epivo provides the structured, responsive support that would otherwise require a dedicated human tutor. Learn more about the IGCSE programme and how Epivo supports parents in tracking their child's progress.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best way to revise for IGCSE maths?
The most effective IGCSE maths revision combines topic-by-topic practice with immediate feedback on errors. Working through problems with a tutor — or with Epivo — helps students understand why answers are wrong, not just what the right answer is.
What grade does IGCSE maths go up to?
Extended tier Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics is graded A* to E. Core tier is graded C to G. Most students targeting university entrance sit the Extended tier and aim for grade B or above.
How many papers are there in IGCSE maths?
Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics (0580) has two papers for Core (Papers 1 and 3) and two papers for Extended (Papers 2 and 4). Each paper is a written examination lasting between one and two and a half hours.
Can Epivo help with IGCSE maths past papers?
Yes. Epivo can work through specific problem types that appear in past papers, explain the method, and check your child's understanding. Past paper practice works best alongside conceptual tutoring, which is where Epivo excels.
How much does an IGCSE maths tutor cost?
Private IGCSE maths tutors charge £40–80 per hour in the UK, or equivalent internationally. Epivo provides unlimited IGCSE maths tutoring — alongside all other core subjects — for a flat monthly subscription.
