Parental control by design

Children do not create their own accounts. A parent or guardian signs in and creates student profiles for their children. This means:

  • The parent controls which children use Epivo
  • The parent can view all session history and progress
  • The parent can delete a child's profile and all associated data
  • No personal information is collected directly from children

When a parent creates a student profile for a child under 13, we verify parental consent through an email confirmation process during account setup. This ensures that a verified parent or guardian has actively approved the child’s use of Epivo.

In Sweden, children aged 13 and older may consent to use the service themselves, in line with our privacy policy and applicable regulations.

What data is collected

For child student profiles, Epivo stores:

  • The child's first name (or nickname) and age
  • Learning progress and mastery levels
  • Session transcripts (text, not audio)
  • Course enrolments and preferences

We do not collect email addresses, photos, or location data from children.

COPPA considerations

The Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) sets rules for collecting data from children under 13. Epivo addresses COPPA requirements by:

  • Verifying parental consent through email confirmation before a child can use the service
  • Collecting only the minimum data needed for the learning experience
  • Giving parents full access to review and delete their child’s data at any time
