No sound at all

  • Check your volume — make sure your device volume is turned up and not muted
  • Check your audio output — if using Bluetooth headphones, make sure they are connected
  • Check your internet connection — Epivo requires internet for all features, including speech recognition and AI responses
  • Restart the app — close Epivo completely and reopen it
  • Check permissions — Epivo needs microphone permission, but sound output should work without special permissions

Robotic or unnatural voice

If the tutor sounds robotic you are hearing your device's own built-in voice — one of the two things the free voice can be. There are two reasons for it, and only one of them clears up:

  • Epivo's own on-device voice is still downloading — wait a moment and start a new session; the first download for a language needs an internet connection
  • Epivo has no voice of its own for your language yet — then your device's built-in voice is the free voice, and this is expected rather than a fault

Epivo has its own on-device voice for many of the languages it tutors in, but not all of them.

Slow or choppy speech

  • Premium voices need a stable internet connection — if your connection is slow, speech may buffer or stutter. Try switching to a stronger Wi-Fi network.
  • The free voice runs locally — once Epivo's own on-device voice is downloaded, it's generated on your device. If it sounds choppy, your device may be under heavy load. Close other apps and try again.
  • Older devices may struggle with voice synthesis. Try restarting your device to free up resources.

Frequently asked questions

The tutor's voice changed unexpectedly. Why?
The usual reason is that your Premium voice time ran out during the session, so Epivo moved you to the free voice — it keeps your teacher's name and identity when it does. On Mini and Max that budget refills every week; on the Free plan the 1-hour allowance is one-time and does not come back. A network problem or a voice model being updated can also cause the switch, and those are temporary. You may also hear your device's built-in voice briefly while Epivo's own on-device voice finishes downloading. If your connection drops out completely, the lesson waits until it is back.
