The underlying principle: a stuck session literally cannot see its own blind spot. The assumptions that created the problem are invisible from inside the conversation. These three techniques — go deeper, go wider, or get fresh eyes — break the frame from different angles. The risk of under-spending on quality is far greater than the risk of over-spending on infrastructure. Stream of consciousness beats polished prompts
Contrary to what many prompt engineering guides suggest, do not waste time crafting perfect prompts when building. Share ideas as they come — unpolished, unorganized, typos and all. Never go back to fix spelling or typing errors. Do not bother with grammar, punctuation, or question marks. Skip pleasantries like "please" — they add nothing. This only works because the heavy lifting lives elsewhere. Your context documents — architecture specs, system descriptions, CLAUDE.md rules — carry the information the AI needs. Everything else is unnecessary.

Saved workflows are called by name, not re-explained. "Follow the process." "Write a CR and have it reviewed." Point, do not repeat. Define the workflow once, write the document once; call both in a sentence.
Research is delegated, not specified. "Research best practice for a clean and elegant design appropriate for our type of business." You specify the question, not the answer. Asking for the best answer produces a better answer than specifying what you think the answer should be.
Screenshots and logs replace descriptions. "[screenshot] Doesn't look good. Make it more elegant." The image carries the full visual state. The same applies to server logs and error output — paste a short log snippet with a word or two and the AI figures out what went wrong. You do not need to read and interpret the log yourself. If you find yourself writing a paragraph about how something looks or what an error means, paste the visual or the log instead. This is one of the biggest time savers in AI-assisted development.
Check the actual output, not the template. "Have a look at the actual rendered prompt sent to the AI." Not the config file, not the source — the actual output that reached the actual user or system.
User perspective is an evaluation frame. "Are we making it super easy for the user? Will they get an optimal first impression?" Evaluating its own output from the user's perspective surfaces improvements it would not have made unprompted.
Constraints belong inside questions. "Can we tweak something to fix this, without cluttering the prompt?" The constraint — "without cluttering" — is embedded in the question itself. This shapes the entire answer at once rather than issuing a directive and a separate constraint that may be read independently.
Putting it all together
